Dateline 27 August 2007: Amy Waters Yarsinske has been recognized by the Hampton Roads Alliance For Environmental Education (HRAEE) with the 2007 Excellence in Communication Award for The Elizabeth River, her latest book. The Elizabeth River is being used by the University of Virginia School of Architecture as a core text to teach students about communities and their development and interaction with a critical body of water. The Elizabeth River Project purchased 200 advanced copies of the book to support its mission of education and the Elizabeth River's restoration. Andrew Sprowle’s private shipyard has become the oldest, largest and best naval shipyard in the United States—Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Sewell’s Point, the land first purchased back in 1620, has become the site of the world’s largest naval base. Hospital Point is the site of the oldest naval hospital. Aside from the military buildup that has taken place along its banks, the river’s port facilities have been developed, with terminals on all sides of the river, including the largest coal facility in the world.
